why i returned to heart body spirit after almost ten years

Heart Body Spirit began as an idea in 2016, then waited quietly while life demanded survival. Nearly ten years later, I am returning to it with lived experience, deeper compassion, and a new understanding of what whole-person healing truly means.

Some ideas disappear because they were never meant for us.

Others stay.

They wait quietly in the background while life becomes louder. They follow us through different jobs, different versions of ourselves, different seasons of survival. Every so often, they tap us on the shoulder and remind us:

You still haven't forgotten me.

Heart Body Spirit first came to me in 2016.

At the time, I could already feel what I wanted it to become: a space for whole-person wellness. A place where the physical, emotional, and spiritual parts of healing could exist together instead of being separated into neat little categories.

I wanted to write about yoga, Reiki, nutrition, mindfulness, natural living, and the connection between the heart, body, and spirit.

But I did not fully build it then.

For almost ten years, the idea sat with me.

Not because I stopped caring about it. Not because I lacked creativity. Not because the dream was wrong.

Life simply required other things from me.

sometimes a dream has to wait while you survive

There were years when I was focused on working, parenting, providing, managing crises, carrying responsibilities, and trying to keep moving even when I was emotionally and physically exhausted.

There were seasons when creating something beautiful felt like a luxury.

My energy went toward what was urgent. I learned how to function under pressure, how to care for other people, and how to keep showing up when I did not always feel cared for myself.

I also spent years navigating my own mental and physical health.

Trauma, anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, PCOS, pain, hormonal changes, and the ordinary demands of adulthood all changed the way I understood wellness.

Healing stopped looking like a perfectly arranged morning routine.

It became much more honest than that.

Sometimes healing was yoga, meditation, or a nourishing meal.

Sometimes it was setting a boundary.

Sometimes it was taking medication, going to therapy, or admitting that I was overwhelmed.

Sometimes it was brushing my teeth, eating something simple, resting without guilt, or making it through one difficult hour.

I could not have written Heart Body Spirit in 2016 the way I can write it now.

Back then, I had the vision.

Now, I also have the lived experience.

i did not abandon the dream

For a long time, I thought of unfinished ideas as evidence that I had failed.

I would remember the website I wanted to create, the things I wanted to write, and the knowledge I wanted to share. Part of me wondered why I had let so much time pass.

But I see it differently now.

I did not abandon Heart Body Spirit.

I was becoming the person who could create it.

The years between then and now gave the idea depth.

I learned that the body holds stories the mind may not yet have words for. I learned how trauma can shape the nervous system, relationships, boundaries, energy, and self-worth.

I learned that caring for the body is not the same as punishing it.

I learned that spirituality can be comforting without requiring us to bypass grief, anger, illness, or reality.

I learned that nourishing food does not need to be expensive, elaborate, or perfect.

I learned that rest is not something we must earn.

Most importantly, I learned that healing is rarely linear.

That truth is now at the center of Heart Body Spirit.

why now?

I returned to HBS because I reached a point where I no longer wanted to spend my entire life surviving.

I wanted to create something that belonged to me.

Something outside of my job title, my responsibilities, my diagnoses, my past, and the roles I fill for everyone else.

I wanted a place to gather the lessons, tools, recipes, practices, and reflections that have helped me reconnect with myself.

Not because I have mastered healing.

Not because I have everything figured out.

And certainly not because I consider myself anyone else's healer.

Heart Body Spirit is not about positioning myself as an expert on another person's life. It is about sharing what I have lived, what I continue to learn, and what has brought me moments of steadiness, nourishment, comfort, and hope.

I believe there is value in saying:

This helped me. Maybe a piece of it will help you too.

what heart body spirit means to me now

Heart Body Spirit is a record of my healing, but it is also an invitation.

It is a place for people who are tired of wellness being presented as another impossible standard.

Here, wellness can be beautiful without being fake.

It can be spiritual without ignoring science.

It can include therapy and tarot, medication and meditation, nourishing recipes and convenience foods, boundaries and softness, grief and joy.

It can acknowledge that trauma, chronic illness, hormones, caregiving, finances, work, and exhaustion affect the choices available to us.

You do not need a perfect kitchen, an expensive routine, endless energy, or a completely healed nervous system to begin caring for yourself.

You are allowed to begin with what you have.

what you will find here

Heart Body Spirit will continue to grow alongside me.

You will find reflections on trauma recovery, nervous-system regulation, boundaries, mindfulness, yoga, Reiki, PCOS, gentle self-care, and spiritual growth.

You will also find realistic recipes, affordable nourishment, worksheets, workbooks, DIY wellness ideas, and the kinds of tools I wish I had during the seasons when I felt disconnected from myself.

Some posts will be deeply personal.

Others will simply help you make a good meal, pause for five minutes, identify what you are feeling, or remember that your needs matter too.

They are all connected.

Because healing does not happen only in the mind.

It happens in the meals we prepare, the conversations we finally have, the limits we set, the rest we allow, the ways we speak to our bodies, and the small rituals that help us return to ourselves.

it is not too late to return to yourself

Almost ten years passed between the first idea for Heart Body Spirit and the moment I finally gave it a home.

I could look at that gap with regret.

Instead, I choose to see it as proof that meaningful dreams can survive long seasons of silence.

There is no expiration date on the life you once imagined.

You are not behind because you had to survive first.

You are not a failure because something took longer than you hoped.

Sometimes we return to an old dream with new wisdom, stronger boundaries, deeper compassion, and a clearer understanding of why it mattered in the first place.

That is what Heart Body Spirit is for me.

It is an old dream returning in a form that finally feels true.

And this time, I am ready to let it grow.
